First Term Improvements for Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office

Development of personal contact throughout the County

Development of a plan, centered on input from citizens to establish goals for the SO to attain, as a greater method of serving the community

Sheriff’s Advisory Board

Implement a system of assigning responsibility to employees, standardizing operating procedures, and developing methods of accountability

Establish fleet of new, safe vehicles while reducing maintenance costs
Installation of video cameras and radar units

Standardize color and markings to address visibility in the public

Implement the wearing of uniforms for all SO employees, utilizing standard colors of most SOs nationwide

Implementation of 24 hour shifts, with one supervisor and two deputies

Implementation of patrol districts and a substation system to enable an assigned area of coverage for officers to maintain a greater response time and visual deterrent

Development of a training program targeted towards creating an investment in each officer employed to insure more proficient and knowledgeable personnel

Development of a Field Training Officer Program for training new deputies

Development of a Crime Prevention Unit to add proactive and educational programs for citizens of all ages

Development of inter-agency cooperation with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies

Development of inter-agency cooperation with local victim services organizations, TRIAD, and task force groups

Establishment of Neighborhood Watch groups throughout county

Development of Media Relations/PIO to inform public of LE activities and local crime

Development of a Law Enforcement Explorer Post as a proactive program with the youth of the County, establishing preventative teaching.

D.A.R.E. program implemented in local school, Sheriff providing D.A.R.E. training
Additional Deputy is now trained

Implementation of Drug Task Force

Implementation of the new telephone system, saving approximately $17,000

Implementation of the new computer system

Implementation of the new computer system called Inmate Management System (IMS) at no cost to county. SBC inmate telephone system paid costs

Installation of 16 new color security cameras in the jail, networking with all in-house computers

Implementation of a Jail Training Officer Program. One of the first jails in the State to actually have a jail training manual.
